The countdown to Christmas in Malaga 2021 has already begun and this year the budget has been increased to €200,000.
As is now tradition, the Christmas lights in Malaga will be switched on well before the 24th of December. Specifically, they will be switched on from 26 November. The lights will be on from 19:00 to 22:00 every day until the 6th of January 2022 (the lights will be on for 40 days).
The lighting follows the same base as last year, with the same arches where the Christmas tree will be placed. We can see the Christmas lights in Calle Larios in Malaga.
We must remember that the residents of Malaga were unable to enjoy the show due to the COVID-19 restrictions last year. In 2020 there was only street lighting. Similarly, other events such as the classic storytelling show at the Roman Theatre were not held either..
Thanks to the increased budget, we will not only be able to better enjoy the Christmas lights switch-on in Malaga, but also different events.
Christmas lights in Malaga over the years
The big change took place in 2014, when Calle Larios was illuminated, turning it into an authentic gothic cathedral with incredible lights..
A year later, in 2015, a change in the structure took place. The Christmas lighting in Malaga at that time was transformed into motifs of moons and stars, in the form of vaults that left no one indifferent.
Continuing with this line of changes and surprising the citizen, in 2017 it is the Cathedral of Malaga which becomes the main protagonist of the lights. Here we can find some reproductions of its domes and stained glass windows in which some of the most beautiful scenes of the date are represented, such as the advent of Christ, among others.
